What is H2Global?
H2Global is a philanthropic foundation focused on climate and environmental protection, with activities ranging from fundraising and donor engagement to engaging with government agencies and conducting research via the H2Global Knowledge Hub. Together with Hintco, a wholly-owned subsidiary which acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers, H2Global operates a double-auction mechanism with the aim of supporting the growth of a global clean hydrogen market.
After a successful first auction in 2024, a second H2Global tender was announced in February 2025. Participation is open to bidders around the world planning to produce RFNBOs that meet the sustainability and GHG criteria defined in the Delegated Regulations (EU) 2023/1184 and 2023/1185.
How does CertifHy help you with your H2Global application?
During the bidding phase, interested producers must submit a self-assessment of their certification-readiness, explaining how they plan to meet the RFNBO criteria laid out in the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), the Delegated Regulations, and the Implementing Regulation 2022/996. This includes a preliminary calculation of the expected GHG emissions based on current design plans and data.

Successful bidders will be required to undergo precertification under one of the Commission-recognized voluntary schemes, such as CertifHy. Evidence of validation, as well as another GHG emissions calculation based on the most recent planning data, shall be submitted to H2Global.

To ensure compliance with the EU RFNBO requirements, producers participating under the H2Global mechanism will be required to continuously issue Proofs of Sustainability (PoS) based on valid certification by one of the Commission-recognized voluntary schemes.
Post-commissioning, facilities can fulfill continuous compliance and PoS requirements using the recognized CertifHy EU RFNBO Voluntary Scheme.

Successful bidders will need to undergo precertification with a recognized voluntary scheme.
