DVGW CERT GmbH Added to Network of Cooperating Certification Bodies under the CertifHy EU Voluntary Scheme

Brussels, October 14th 2026 – CertifHy is pleased to announce that DVGW CERT GmbH has recently been approved as a cooperating Certification Body under the CertifHy EU Voluntary Scheme.

The approval enables DVGW CERT to perform certification, precertification, and recertification audits for relevant economic operators across the renewable hydrogen and e-fuels value chain. Through third-party conformity assessments, DVGW CERT will support companies in demonstrating compliance with the European Union’s requirements for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs), including sustainability, traceability, and greenhouse gas reduction.

DVWG team at conference reflecting its global role in testing, inspection, and certification services, now extended to RFNBO audits under the CertifHy scheme.

With this achievement, DVGW CERT extends its 167 years of expertise to RFNBO certification. Its background in the gas and water sector brings practical energy-sector knowledge to the assessment of renewable hydrogen value chains, and its industry-experienced auditors are equipped to evaluate complex processes, technical interfaces, and the relationships between different parts of the energy system.

The CertifHy EU Voluntary Scheme provides a framework for economic operators to prove the renewable character of hydrogen and its derivatives placed on the European market. The approval of DVGW CERT further strengthens CertifHy’s network of cooperating Certification Bodies and expands the technical capacity available to economic operators as the hydrogen and e-fuels market develops.

“Certification is about trust, and trust depends on independent auditors who understand the assets they verify. DVGW CERT brings deep expertise in gas infrastructure and a long-standing experience as a Certification Body. As demand for RFNBO certification grows, we need to scale up certification capabilities without making compromises on quality. This new cooperation gets us closer to this goal,” said Matthieu Boisson, Managing Director or CertifHy.

“The hydrogen economy is rapidly gaining momentum, with independent certification playing a pivotal role in its development,” added Prof. Gerald Linke, Chairman of the Board of DVGW, “Leveraging our strong foundation within the DVGW network, we draw on decades of expertise in the energy sector to deliver reliable certification of RFNBO under the CertifHy EU Voluntary Scheme. Our in-depth technical knowledge positions us to actively contribute to this evolving market through credible, robust, and forward-looking assessments.”

For CertifHy, the cooperation with DVGW CERT represents an opportunity to connect the scheme with additional technical expertise in the gas and hydrogen sector. For economic operators, it provides access to a Certification Body with a clear understanding of energy systems, regulatory requirements, and the practical challenges associated with complex value chains.

About CertifHy: Founded in 2014, CertifHy is a frontrunner in the realm of renewable hydrogen and e-fuels’ certification, providing a comprehensive suite of tools to empower stakeholders engaged in the energy transition. It operates two schemes — the CertifHy EU Voluntary Scheme (RFNBO Scope and Low-Carbon Scope) and the CertifHy Non-Governmental Certificate (NGC) Scheme — which aims to verify the sustainability and origin of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives. CertifHy also offers precertification, which familiarises companies with the data collection and documentation processes required for official certification, and an in-house e-learning platform — CertifHy Academy — to equip Economic Operators and Certification Bodies with the expertise needed to navigate the complex landscape of hydrogen certification. It fosters collaboration through its Stakeholder Platform, which invites representatives of the industry, government, and academia to shape the future development of hydrogen certification systems. Together, CertifHy’s robust certification schemes and knowledge-building resources pave the way for a cleaner energy future.
