DEFINITION

The CertifHy EU RFNBO certification system is crucial for promoting the use of renewable fuels derived from non-biological sources, in particular hydrogen and its derivatives.

The Revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) establishes ambitious targets for the production of renewable hydrogen and the utilization of Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) in the transport and industrial sectors by 2030.

Producers and users must meet specific requirements outlined in RED II (Articles 25-30) and its associated Delegated Acts in order to satisfy compliance targets in the expanding RFNBO market, which includes hydrogen and its derivatives.

CertifHy EU RFNBO certification serves as evidence to qualify for incentives introduced by EU Member States aiming to reach decarbonisation targets in the transport sector. This guarantees profitability for stakeholders throughout the value chain.

Our certification system verifies that hydrogen and e-fuels produced from non-biological sources meet the criteria set forth in RED II, the Delegated Acts, and Implementing Regulation. Our scheme specifically focuses on factors like greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability to ensure that we maintain a high standard of environmental responsibility and accountability.

The CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme covers all non-biological renewable fuels produced globally and used for transportation in the European Union.

The CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme is currently pending recognition by the European Commission.

BENEFITS

The strength of CertifHy’s EU RFNBO Scheme lies in our leading expertise as a hydrogen and e-fuels pure player. We streamline the certification process for economic operators by leveraging CertifHy’s extensive knowledge of the hydrogen and e-fuels market and regulatory frameworks.

The CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme is a European Voluntary Scheme, recognized and monitored by the European Commission. Products certified under the CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme are eligible for incentives implemented by EU Member States seeking to decarbonise their transport sectors.

Certification under a European Voluntary Scheme, like the CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme, is crucial for companies aiming to sell renewable hydrogen and derivative products in the European marketplace.

Users of the CertifHy EU RFNBO certification system also receive guiding documents and tools to support regulatory reporting activities, including the deployment of the Union Database.

EU RFNBO Scheme Documents

The CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme documents provide general and technical guidelines for certification under RED II and its associated Delegated Acts. They are designed to provide clarity and support to those engaged along the hydrogen value chain.
