CERTIFHY EU RFNBO SCHEME DOCUMENTS

UPDATE HISTORY OF DOCUMENTATION

The CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme documents were revised in November 2025 to improve readability and ensure consistent application of RED requirements. While all documents received minor editorial improvements, three documents underwent substantive technical updates:

1. GHG Emissions & Sustainability Requirements (V1.6)
  • Materiality threshold for inputs: Added clarification that inputs with a negligible impact (< 0.5 %) on total emissions, such as low-quantity processing chemicals, may be excluded from the GHG calculation.

(Chapter 4.2 “GHG emission calculation” (p. 10); Checklist GHG Emissions sheet)

  • CO₂ from biomass (clarified): Adjusted text to specify that only CO₂ originating from biomass must be documented and proven compliant with eligibility criteria; biomass itself is not relevant for RFNBO scope.

(Chapter 4.12 “Supply chain elements” (p. 19); Checklist (Sustainability sheet))

  • Catalysts and comparable inputs: Introduced a 3-year lifetime cut-off: inputs with < 3 years lifetime are treated as consumables (included in GHG calculation); ≥ 3 years as part of installation (excluded). Reflected also in Annex C (quantitative information).

(Chapters 4.2 and 4.4 + Annex C; Checklist (GHG Emissions sheet))

  • CO₂ source evidence: Expanded operator obligation to classify CO₂ source and provide supporting documentation on capture process, origin, and relevant compliance conditions.

(Chapter 4.13; Checklist (Sustainability sheet))

2. Traceability & Chain of Custody Requirements (V1.6)
  • Measurement systems (calibration): Specified that all measurement systems used for RFNBO production and reporting must be available, functional, and regularly calibrated, with records kept for audit.

(Data chapter; Checklist (Traceability sheet))

3. Requirements for Certification Bodies & Auditors (V1.7)
  • Quality Management System (QMS): Added explicit requirement for operators to maintain a documented QMS covering CertifHy RFNBO activities, including procedures, competence, and CAPA elements.

(Management Systems chapter; Checklist (Management System sheet))
