Brussels, 06/11/25 – CertifHy is pleased to announce that GUTcert has joined the list of recognized Certification Bodies under the CertifHy EU RFNBO Certification Scheme, following the signing of a Cooperation Agreement.
This recognition enables GUTcert to perform certification, precertification, and re-certification audits of all relevant economic operators involved in the renewable hydrogen and e-fuel value chain, including producers, transporters, and storage operators. Acting as an independent auditor, GUTcert will assess whether these activities comply with the RFNBO criteria and issue factual conclusions regarding eligibility for certification.
GUTcert is well established in the field of certification and environmental verification, with accreditations covering management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001, as well as verification of greenhouse gas statements under ISO 14065. It also validates environmental declarations under the EMAS framework and verifies emissions reporting, bringing extensive experience in sustainability audits and climate-related assessments.
As part of the recognition process, GUTcert auditors completed the CertifHy Academy training and successfully passed the exam, obtaining the title of CertifHy EU RFNBO Voluntary Scheme Approved Auditor. This qualification confirms their ability to conduct audits in full accordance with CertifHy’s procedures and technical requirements.
“We are pleased to welcome GUTcert as a recognized Certification Body under the CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme,” said Matthieu Boisson, Managing Director of CertifHy. “Their auditing and verification expertise will help strengthen the credibility and reach of RFNBO certification across the renewable hydrogen and e-fuels ecosystem.”
Emanuel Hiese from GUTcert is enthusiastic as well: “We are delighted to be working with CertifHy and strengthen our foundation in RFNBO certification with another certification scheme recognized by the European Commission. The communication with CertifHy is excellent, and I am looking forward to the first projects under the CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme.”
With this inclusion, GUTcert expands the growing network of trusted Certification Bodies supporting CertifHy in scaling reliable and transparent certification for renewable hydrogen and e-fuels in Europe and beyond.
About CertifHy
Founded in 2014, CertifHy is a frontrunner in the realm of renewable hydrogen and e-fuels’ certification, providing a comprehensive suite of tools to empower stakeholders engaged in the energy transition. It operates two schemes — the CertifHy EU Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) Voluntary Scheme and the CertifHy Non-Governmental Certificate (NGC) Scheme — which aims to verify the sustainability and origin of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives. CertifHy also offers precertification, which familiarizes companies with the data collection and documentation processes required for official certification, and an in-house e-learning platform — CertifHy Academy — to equip Economic Operators and Certification Bodies with the expertise needed to navigate the complex landscape of hydrogen certification. It fosters collaboration through its Stakeholder Platform, which invites representatives of the industry, government, and academia to shape the future development of hydrogen certification systems. Together, CertifHy’s robust certification schemes and knowledge-building resources pave the way for a cleaner energy future.
